The term KHANDUA comes from odia words KHAND meaning ‘hand’ and ‘oua’ meaning woven. Referring to hand woven nature of these sarees. Khandua saree is woven with wooden looms in the traditional style of hand weaving. Originating from the weaving hubs of maniabandha and nuapatna in odisha. Khandua patta are deeply inter woven with the culture. Tradiionally , these sarees were often offered to lord Jagannath, the presiding deity of the jagannath temple in puri, which gives the khandua saree a revered status among handloom lovers.
